At the Tuesday, May 26, 2020 meeting of the Berkeley County Board of Education, it was announced that Tara Baker will be the next principal at Sangaree Elementary. Her contract will take effect on July 1, 2020.

Mrs. Baker comes to SRE from Nexton Elementary, where she assumed the role of assistant principal in 2015. When she steps on the campus of SRE in July, her journey through Berkeley County School District will come full circle as she will return to the school where her career in education began.

“I student taught at Sangaree Elementary,” Mrs. Baker said. “Then, I was then lucky enough to be the Title I Facilitator at Sangaree Intermediate. So, I’m just returning to where I began in education. I’m super excited.”

Mrs. Baker said she is looking forward to joining the team and community at Sangaree Elementary and is eager to begin building relationships valuable to teaching and learning.

She brings with her valuable Leader in Me program experience and a shared vision of SRE continuing the district’s focus on personalized learning and project-based learning.

"I hope to jump right in with Leader in Me," Ms. Butka said. We're headed to our second year, and I'm somewhat familiar with it. Hopefully I can jump in and be a support in any way that I can for Mrs. Baker and for our students and staff and the community."
